2020: DREAMers on Grounds Changes Name to undocUVA
For the past two years, student leaders in DREAMers on Grounds have been orking to make our campus and community a more equitable and inclusive space. In Spring 2020, after reflecting on their work for all undocumented and marginalized people, not just DREAMers, the group became undocUVA. DACA@UVa is excited to continue our work with inspirational student leaders. Click here to learn more about the past and the future of undocUVA.
2019: UVa Summer Medical Leadership Program Accepts DACAmented Students
Great news! Enrollment for the University of Virginia School of Medicine’s Summer Medical Leadership Program has just opened. SMLP is an intensive, six-week residential summer enrichment program for 30 undergraduate students from underrepresented groups and disadvantaged backgrounds — including DACA students — who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine. Applicants will be selected from a nationwide pool of applicants.
This program exposes participants to the “real world of medicine” to prepare them for admission to medical school and to assume leadership positions in the medical and biomedical fields. SMLP builds on the success of the previous UVASOM medical academic enrichment programs; Medical Academic Advancement Program (MAAP) and Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP). For more information on the program, please click here. Information provided by DREAMers on Grounds.
